After his solo performance during CELLOFEST 2022, the versatile jazz cellist Stephan Braun brings singer and cellist Anne-Christine Schwartz this time. This duo (deep strings) from Berlin is the winner of the Jazz & Blues Award Berlin and beloved at many jazz festivals. With their brilliant timing, their baffling virtuosity and new cello techniques they always know how to surprise an audience.

Stephan Braun

Stephan Braun is considered one of the most interesting cellists in the European jazz scene. He has shared the stage with famous musicians such as Melody Gardot, Nils Landgren, Gil Goldstein, Chris Hinze, Don Thomson, Till Broenner, Giora Feidman, and Kristjan Randalu. He studied both classical and jazz cello at the conservatories in Hamburg and Berlin and won the International Jazz Competition in Bucharest with his trio in 2010. Stephan Braun has recorded more than twenty albums, including two albums with his trio and duo. He is currently teaching at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and the Anton Bruckner Privat University in Linz.

Anne-Christin Schwarz

Anne-Christin Schwarz studied cello at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ in Berlin with Stephan Forck and chamber music with Michael Mücke and Wolf-Dieter Batzdorf, among others. She plays in classical chamber ensembles as well as cross-genre formations, in which she also performs as a singer. During her studies she worked together with jazz cellist Stephan Braun to form the jazz ensemble Deep Strings, with which she will perform at this edition of CELLOFEST.
