Candida Thompson
Violin and leader
Candida Thompson graduated with distinction from David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in 1989 and continued his training at the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada. She led string orchestras in Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and Great Britain. She played chamber music with musicians such as Isaac Stern, Bruno Giuranna, Frans Helmerson, Janine Jansen, and Julian Rachlin, and at events such as the Kuhmo Festival (Finland), the Gubbio Festival (Italy), and the Delft Chamber Music Festival (the Netherlands). She forms the Hamlet Piano Trio with cellist Xenia Jankovic and pianist Paolo Giacometti. As a soloist, Candida Thompson has performed with well-known ensembles and orchestras such as the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the English String Orchestra, Camerata Nordica, the Wiener Symphoniker, and Amsterdam Sinfonietta. She became concertmaster of the latter company in 1995 and since 2003 she has also been its artistic director. Candida Thompson plays a violin built by Guarneri del Gesù.
