The Residentie Orchestra is a fixed value at the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam. They often bring Dutch premieres or world premieres, but this time it’s a highly classical programme of indestructible classics. Haydn’s two cello concertos belong to the pinnacle of the classical era. The young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who became world famous when he performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding at Windsor Castle, takes on Cello Concerto No. 2

Ivan Karizna and Liza Ferschtman perform Brahms’ Double Concerto, also referred to as ‘the most beautiful cello concerto’. Johannes Brahms composed his double concerto for violin, cello, and orchestra as a peace offering for his best friend Joseph Joachim, the world-famous violinist with whom he had fallen out a while before.
