Frank van de Laar completed his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Jan Wijn with the highest conceivable distinctions in 1989. He continued his studies in Hanover with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and in Amsterdam with Naum Grubert. In 1987 he won the 3rd prize at the International Brahms Competition in Hamburg and in 1988 he won the 1st prize at the Postbank-Sweelinck Competition. In the same year he made his debut in the Great Hall of the Concertgebouw. This was followed in rapid succession by performances at home and abroad, which were warmly welcomed by the press and the public. He gave concerts in America, Asia, and almost all the countries of Europe, receiving many prizes and awards. His repertoire covers the entire period from Bach to the present, in which lesser-known old and new masterpieces play an interesting role. He is also very active in the field of chamber music. Numerous radio and television recordings have documented his performances and he has since released more than twenty-five CDs. He teaches piano at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Zwolle.
