Fauré’s Élégie is one of his most beloved and most performed works for cello – originally scored for cello and piano, later orchestrated by Fauré himself and premiered by Pablo Casals on the cello. Quirine Viersen performs Frank Martin’s Ballade, which she recorded in 2005.
In 2020, Rembrandt Frerichs composed a double concerto for Kian Soltani and kamancheh player Kayhan Kalhor, sporting clear Eastern influences. He has now written a double concerto for Maja Bogdanovic and Daniel Rowland, in which his jazz roots are highlighted, too. Two closely connected people come together in this musical ‘two-to-tango’. Lush jazz harmonies and non-Western rhythms move to the waves of the ensemble.
