The Indonesian-Dutch composer Sinta Wullur founded her gamelan ensemble, Global Gongs collective (previously Ensemble Multifoon) in 1995. The sound of the Indonesian gongs in combination with other percussion instruments can evoke all kinds of meditative atmospheres, but can also lead to complex and virtuosic rhythmical patterns. The Chromatic Gamelan, developed by Wullur herself, allows composers to combine the gamelan with Western instruments.

Among other things, Wullur has been on an expedition to India. In her new composition, she integrates Indian ragas and Indonesian music. Saskia Rao-de Haas and the Indonesian cellist Alfian Emir Adytia composed a work for themselves and the gamelan collective, and new music by the young composers Maarten Bauer and Paul Schauenburg is included in the concert.
