Holland Baroque
Ensemble
From Bach to gospel, from jazz to Gregorian; Holland Baroque, with its unique programmes, is a welcome guest at (inter)national concert venues and has won, among other awards, two Edisons and two REMA awards. The orchestra approaches a score like an unfinished work of art: with knowledge, skill, fantasy, and playfulness, Baroque becomes a new experience. This is how Holland Baroque found its own characteristic sound.
Judith and Tineke Steenbrink, the artistic directors of the ensemble, compose and arrange for the orchestra and their musical collaborators. This way, unique projects came into being, such as Gospel Baroque with the London Community Gospel Choir, Love is Crazy with punk diva Sven Ratzke, and Silk Baroque with sheng player Wu Wei. Large-scale research led, alongside the discovery of a wealth of repertoire, to the recognition of long-forgotten 17th-century composers such as Benedictus a Sancto Josepho. The orchestra gained recognition with a wide audience with its projects around trumpet player Eric Vloeimans and singer-songwriter Daniël Lohues. Their collaboration with Reinbert de Leeuw made a deep impression.
The orchestra actively supports young talent and the future of music: with its concerts for students in schools, the orchestra stimulates creativity among children. Through their own Samama Fellowship, young professionals can gain experience over a season.
