Bruno Cocset is a French Baroque cellist, musicologist, and pedagogue, and is considered a pioneer in the field of historically informed performance. After his studies in Tours followed by a period at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon, Bruno Cocset began playing Baroque cello with gut strings; self-taught at first, later as a student of Christophe Coin. He has also taken masterclasses with Anner Bijlsma and violinist Jaap Schröder.
As an ensemble musician, he played in Il Seminario Musicale by Gérard Lesne, as well as Le Concert des Nations and Hespèrion XX-XXI by Jordi Savall. In 1996, he founded the ensemble Les Basses Réunies.
His research into sound colour and instrument build, in collaboration with luthier Charles Riché, led to nine instruments, conceived and suited to different stylistic periods.
