Amarilis Dueñas is a Spanish cellist and one of the leading interpreters of her generation in the field of historically informed performance. She is renowned for the balance between precision, intuition, and freedom in her playing. She performs across all of Europe both on the cello and on viola da gamba, as a soloist as well as a chamber musician, with orchestras such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, and the het B'Rock Orchestra.
She is a laureate of competitions, such as Juventudes Musicales, the Pablo Casals International Award, chamber music competition Beethoven in seiner Zeit 2021, and the Bach-Abel International Viola da Gamba Competition in Köthen. In 2025, she received the Audience Prize and the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra Special Prize at the International Telemann Competition.
In her playing, influences can be recognised of musicians such as Jordi Savall, Paolo Pandolfo, Bruno Cocset, and Kristin von der Goltz, all of whom she had lessons with. Amarilis Dueñas’ work revolves around historically informed performance, which is not limited to early music: her projects also include arrangements for the viola da gamba of music from various styles and eras.
