The Cello Biënnale Amsterdam and the UD Festival join forces in this programme to aim the spotlight at two remarkable musicians who convincingly connect Arabian and Western cultures. The Moroccan-Canadian cellist Anwar Saidi belongs to the select few musicians completely at home in the Arabian modal systems as well as in the Western classical tradition. Nazih Borish* is an internationally acclaimed oud player. Borish has developed his own playing style by applying techniques from jazz, flamenco, and Indian music to the oud. Joined by the musicians from the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, Saidi and Borish present a programme of new compositions alongside contemporary interpretations of traditional music.

* Shortly after the publication of the brochure, we received the sad news that Nazih Borish had passed away unexpectedly. Our thoughts are with his family and his loved ones. As soon as his replacement is known, this will be announced on this website.
