FIOR DI MALE
In Fior di male, the third film the diva made with director Carmine Gallone, La Borelli is not yet the adored femme fatale of, for instance, Rapsodia satanica (1917). She plays the ambitious Lyda who manages to acquire status in the higher circles. A process that is not without its ups and downs and of which the tone can safely be called ecstatic-melodramatic.
The live music for this silent film in colour is played by 'Cellophon', the cello duo consisting of Paul Rittel and Tobias Stutz. Their two cellos sound like cellos... or double basses, or guitars, violins, sometimes even percussion instruments or sound effects. The two musicians venture far beyond the boundaries of one genre and skilfully mix elements from classical music, jazz, pop and world music.
