Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker

Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker return to Amsterdam with a new programme. The twelve cellists had a long-standing wish for a new composition by Giovanni Sollima, and that wish has now been fulfilled. American composer John Adams’ Shaker Loops is one of his most performed works: originally composed for string septet, later extended into a version for string orchestra by the composer himself. Die 12 Cellisten are the perfect in-between!

Fratres by Arvo Pärt is one of the most beloved compositions of the 20th Century and exists in every possible version and instrumentation. Pärt himself created a version for 12 cellos. The cello is often referred to as the instrument that is closest to the human voice, and there is no better proof than the arrangement of Francis Poulenc’s gripping choral composition Figure Humaine.
