Vinsent Planjer

Percussion

Drummer, percussionist, and composer Vinsent Planjer learnt the basic skills of drumming in the brass band in Zwolle. He went on to study with jazz legend Eric Ineke at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and received lessons from numerous (international) guest professors. Since graduating, he has performed at jazz venues and festivals, but also in theatre productions. In 2013, his first album as a band leader was released (The Complete First Season, by Vinsent Planjer’s Natural Selection). Over the past 15 years, he has become best known as a member of the Rembrandt Trio (alongside Rembrandt Frerichs and Tony Overwater). With this jazz piano trio, he has collaborated with guest musicians from a range of genres, such as Liza Ferschtman, Paolo Fresu (Italy), Kayhan Kalhor (Iran), and Erdal Erzincan (Turkey).

One of his main driving forces is an unbridled curiosity about all possible ways of making music and about how different traditions interpret the role of a percussionist; he loves seeking out percussion instruments wherever he travels in the world, bringing them back to The Netherlands, and adding them to his arsenal of sounds. His instrument set-up, also known as the ‘Whisper Kit’, is unsurprisingly formed by an ever-changing collection of items from all over the world.
