Victor Julien-Laferrière was the winner of the very first Queen Elisabeth Competition (Brussels) for the cello in 2017. He began his studies in Paris with René Benedetti and Roland Pidoux, and went on to study with Heinrich Schiff in Vienna and with Clemens Hagen in Salzburg. After winning ‘Brussels’, his career took off in a major way. He previously performed at the Biënnale in 2018, playing Dvorák’s cello concerto with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and in 2022, performing Shostakovich’s first cello concerto with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. Since then, he has appeared as a soloist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra and Amsterdam Sinfonietta, among others. Victor also regularly performs as a conductor and is the artistic director of several festivals. In 2021, he founded the French chamber orchestra Orchestre Consuelo, of which he is the conductor as well as the artistic director.
