René van Munster is an adventurous cellist and composer who enjoys pushing the boundaries in music. A member of Cello Octet Amsterdam, he brings to life a wide range of performances, focusing on new music, interdisciplinary collaborations, and translating electronic sound into the cello.

His most recent EP, Forget, was released by GERYON in New York and explores the relationship between grief, memory, and time through the lens of electronically manipulated cello sound.

He is a professor at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where he teaches person-oriented improvisation. He began his own studies with Jan Ype Nota and Michel Strauss at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen and continued studying in Japan, where he earned his master’s degree with distinction at the Tokyo University of the Arts, studying with Fumiaki Kono.
