The Hungarian cellist Ildikó Szabó is known for her deep connection to Central European music traditions. Szabó combines her performing career with a professorship at the Julius Stern Institute in Berlin.

Ildikó Szabó comes from a family with a rich musical tradition. From age eleven, she studied with László Mező at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and took masterclasses from János Starker. In 2011, she began her education at the University of Arts in Berlin, studying with Jens Peter Maintz, and continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik „Franz Liszt“  Weimar with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt from 2018. In July 2023, she completed her training at the Kronberg Academy. She has won prizes at various international competitions, including the 2014 Pablo Casals Cello Competition, where she received no less than eight prizes in total.

Szabó has a special affinity for the Hungarian and Transylvanian repertoire – she has personal connections to György Kurtág and Péter Eötvös.
