Hermine Deurloo

Harmonica

Fascinated by the sound of the chromatic harmonica, Hermine Deurloo traded in her alto saxophone for this little instrument. And successfully: she is praised for her lyrical, warm tone and yet also virtuosic style, which can be described as narrative and melodic. She has performed with artists ranging from Trijntje Oosterhuis and Mike Boddé to the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and the Metropole Orkest. Deurloo works within jazz, but does not confine herself to a single style.

She recorded her most recent CD (Riverbeast, Zennez Records, 2019) with the legendary drummer Steve Gadd, pianist Kevin Hayes, bassist Tony Scherr, and guest vocalist Alain Clark. The album before that (Living Here, Zennez Records) is a collaboration with pianist Rembrandt Frerichs, drummer Jim Black, and cellist Jörg Brinkmann.

Hermine was often seen alongside Mike Boddé on Podium Witteman, as well as on De Wereld Draait Door, Pauw, Jinek, Bij Beau, and HLF8. Hermine has appeared in numerous films (De Wilde Stad) and commercials. In 2002, together with the composer Reinder van Zalk (Studio Earforce), Hermine recorded the original version of the famous Unox commercial jingle, which has been heard on radio and TV for 20 years since. She also recorded all of the commercial’s subsequent follow-up jingles.
