Emmanuelle Bertrand is a French cellist internationally renowned for her interpretations of Romantic as well as contemporary repertoire. She received her education at the Conservatoires Nationaux Supérieurs de Musique et de Danse in Lyon and Paris, studying with Jean Deplace and Philippe Muller, has won numerous prizes, was named “artist of the year” by the magazine Diapason and the listeners of France Musique in 2011, and made her breakthrough with the wider audience when she received her first Victoire de la Musique in 2002.

When she was 25 years old, she met the composer Henri Dutilleux, who described her as a ‘true revelation’. She has since premiered work by many contemporary composers, including Chanson pour Pierre Boulez by Luciano Berio.

She forms a duo with pianist Pascal Amoyel, her partner both in life and onstage, with whom she dedicates herself to forgotten music as well as the major repertoire.
