Connie Shih
Piano
Connie Shih (Canada) began playing the piano when she was five years old, and made her orchestral debut aged nine with Mendelssohn’s first piano concerto, with the Seattle Symphony. Three years later, she became György Sebok’s youngest ever protégé, after which she continued her education at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Claude Frank, who himself was once a student of Artur Schnabel. She later received lessons from Fou Ts’ong in Europe. In 1993, Connie received the Sylva Gelber Prize for the most outstanding classical musician under thirty.
Shih is an in-demand chamber partner. With her duo partner, Steven Isserlis, she not only performs at major venues worldwide, but has also recorded a significant part of the repertoire for cello and piano.
Connie has held professorships at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz and the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. Since 2022, she has been a professor of piano and piano chamber music at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. She has also given masterclasses at prestigious music institutes and has taught at the Mozarteum Summer Academy, the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, and the Musiktage am Rhein in Germany.
