Chiara Trentin is a cellist and composer who explores the intersection of modern classical music, electronic music, and experimental sounds. She began taking music lessons at three years old, and completed her classical education at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim. Her musicianship gradually expanded to include composition, improvisation, and the exploration of sound by means of effect pedals and sampling. Central to her work is the six-string electric cello, which extends the instrument’s expressive range and creates space for layered textures and hybrid forms.
In 2019, as part of the programme surrounding the Anner Bijlsma Award, Giovanni Sollima selected her to develop a solo project with her own compositions for electric cello. Violoncellula was premiered at the 2022 Cello Biënnale. The project, which draws from Baroque forms, ambient textures, and post-minimalistic structures, has since been presented in various forms, including an immersive version at INNER_SPACES in Milan.
