Archets en bois de Robinier

Bow maker

Coen Engelhard studied the cello with Jean Decroos in The Hague. Then he moved to the south of France, where he discovered the viola da gamba. After performing on the cello and the viol for decades, he starts making bows from acacia wood. This has been his full-time occupation since 2015. Acacia wood is truly remarkable. It gives the bows a nice articulation and a direct and focused sound. In addition to bows for the viola da gamba and baroque cello, Coen also makes classical cello bows, interesting for cellists who are willing to think a little outside the box.
