Violinist, conductor and composer Silvestre Revueltas was one of the most prominent Mexican artists at the beginning of the last century, with orchestral works such as Sensemayá – the Mexican version of Ravel’s Bolero –bringing him world acclaim. The Polish Cello Quartet will be demonstrating what Sensemayá sounds like played by four cellos and percussion.

Albert Ginastera’s cultural role in Argentina was comparable to that of Revueltas’ in Mexico. He wrote Pampeana for his then future wife, the cellist Aurora Nátola, in 1950 – inspired by the rugged gauchos of the Argentinian pampas.

The Spanish cellist Amparo Lacruz will be playing Mexican composer and guitarist Manuel Ponce’s.

Cellist, musicologist and authority on Latin American music Job ter Haar rearranged the compositions by Revueltas, Baden Powell, Montana and Costa.
