On the 20th of October, 2022, at the Opening Concert of the ninth Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras received the Anner Bijlsma Award. He used the prize money to start a project in which he takes four young cellists under his wing to work on improvisation techniques, composition, arrangement in different styles, and open-mindedness. In his endeavour, Jean-Guihen Queyras is supported by his own musical inspirations: lyra player Sokratis Sinopoulos, jazz saxophonist Raphaël Imbert and dancers Marie Goudot and Michaël Pomero. In the end, the sessions culminate in concerts at festivals in France and, of course, at the Cello Biënnale.
