Maya Fridman

Maya Fridman (Moscow, 1989) studied with Dmitri Ferschtman at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where she obtained her master’s degree with the highest distinction. She is a versatile cellist who cannot be captured in a single genre. Despite her background in classical music, she is also at home in folk, rock, jazz, and contemporary classical music. In 2013, she won the Grote Prijs van Nederland Best Musician Award. At the Biënnale of 2016, Maya played a leading part in creating and performing the musical and theater piece Master and Margarita. She was musician-in-residence at Gaudeamus and won the Dutch Classical Talent Award 2019. In 2020, she played a part in the program Rituelen, playing parts that were written for her. On September 20th, 2022, the movie United we Stand (Musicians in Time of War) by documentary maker David van Tijn premiered at Film Museum Eye. In it, he follows Maya while she organizes and performs the many benefit concerts that arose immediately after the start of the war.
