Guust François
Cello maker
Guust François (1956) trained as a violin maker under Francesco Bissolotti at the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria in Cremona from 1978 to 1982. Together with fellow students, he subsequently ran a shared workshop in Campo Corto, Tuscany, where he also spent two seasons as a cellist in the Bagni di Lucca festival orchestra. After working for McGhee and Keene in New York, he opened his own workshop in Amsterdam in 1993. He builds (viola) violins and cellos, both Baroque and modern; he also restores and deals in instruments.
