Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Orchestra

The Concertgebouw Orchestra barely needs an introduction. In honour of the 10th Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, the orchestra will play at the Biënnale for the first time in a programme with a new cello concerto by Liza Lim as well as the second cello concerto un despertar by Matthias Pintscher, who will also conduct the orchestra.

The Concertgebouw Orchestra was founded in 1888 and was given the title “Royal” in 1988.

The orchestra’s homebase is the Concertgebouw, and the orchestra only performs outside of the Concertgebouw a few times a year. The orchestra also regularly performs in top concert halls all over the world. Its chief conductor from 2027 will be Klaus Mäkelä, who made his Dutch debut in 2018 during the Cello Biënnale in the Muziekgebouw.
