In recent decades, Max Lilja has revealed just what a ‘chameleon’ he truly is.

In 1993, after studying classical cello at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, he became one of the founders of the internationally renowned Finnish symphonic metal band Apocalyptica.

A decade later, in 2001, he changed course – shaving off his beard, cutting his long hair and buying a shiny black electric cello to immerse himself in the world of dance and electronic music.

The intensity and explosiveness of this born performer’s playing soon have you forget that the worlds of metal and dance are generally considered to be light years apart.
