Nederlandse Bachvereniging

The Netherlands Bach Society is a leading vocal-instrumental ensemble of international significance. The Bach Society was founded in 1921 to perform Bach's St Matthew Passion in the Grote Kerk in Naarden. Over the past century, the ensemble has grown into a professional group of players, singers, and keepers of the work of Bach and his peers and contemporaries. The musicians play on historical instruments and are driven by curiosity and pleasure.

During the Cello Biennale, in a small ensemble, without a choir, and under the artistic direction of Shunske Sato, the ensemble will show the many rich colors of both Bach and the Netherlands Bach Society. In addition, every music lover can enjoy all the works that the Bach Society has recorded for All of Bach via YouTube for free.

Through the Young Bach Fellowship, the Bach Society trains baroque musicians of the future and coaches amateur musicians in the Utrecht region. Their education program introduces secondary school students to the fascinating world behind Bach's notes. Together with the Cello Biennale, the Netherlands Bach Society organized a talent development program for young cellists up to the age of 18. The result can be heard on at 12.30 on Wednesday, October 26, in the BIMHUIS.
