Dimitri Illarionov

Dimitri Illirionov is a multiple award-winning winner of more than 20 international competitions, such as Guitar Foundation of America Competition (2002, Miami, USA) and Francisco Tárrega Guitar Competition (2008, Spain). In addition to performing numerous solo recitals, he is a frequent soloist with orchestras. Dimitri Illarionov has recorded many CDs: solo for the labels Naxos and Daminus, and with orchestra for Les Editions Doberman-Yppan. His CD Classical Duo (Delos Records) with Boris Andrianov was longlisted for the 2004 Grammy Awards. Several composers have dedicated their works to Dimitri. The Italian composer Angelo Gilardino wrote the concerto Star of the Morning (Hommage to Nikolaj Roerich) for guitar, cello and orchestra for him; Nikita Koshkin dedicated his Concerto Grosso for guitar and orchestra to him. Alexei Rybnikov (Russia) wrote the suite Travel through Time for guitar and orchestra for Dimitri. 

Dimitri Illirionov is a teacher at the Russian Gnessin Music University in Moscow. He is also director of the classical section of the largest guitar festival in Russia, the World of Guitar Kaluga International Festival. He was the founder of the international Guitar Virtuosi Moscow Festival. Since 2009, Dimitri has been one of the organizers of the Alexander Frauchi International Guitar Competition. In 2012, he became Artistic Director of the Novosibirsk Guitar Festival – the largest guitar festival in the history of the Asian part of Russia.
