The Metropole Orkest is the orchestra for jazz, pop, soul, funk, cabaret, musicals, film music, and world music. The orchestra regularly plays well-known Dutch pop venues such as Paradiso and de Melkweg. Abroad, the Metropole Orkest is a welcome guest at many major festivals, including the BBC Proms and Musikfest Bremen. The orchestra is also a regular guest at the Holland Festival and North Sea Jazz, and played at Pinkpop, Lowlands, Noorderslag, and the 3FM Awards. As a result, the Metropole Orkest has also become known and loved by a younger audience.
The MO has produced more than 150 albums in the past 70 years and has participated in thousands of radio and TV broadcasts. This means that, each year, over 600 arrangements are made in their wide range of genres. In recent years, the orchestra has been nominated for a Grammy 20 times, winning 3 times, most recently for 'Best Contemporary Instrumental Album' in 2016 with Snarky Puppy.
