Ivan Karizna

Cello

Ivan Karizna (Minsk,1992) started playing the cello at age 7, surrounded by a family of musicians. He received lessons from the renowned cello teacher Valentin Perlin. At age 17, he moved to Paris to study with Jérôme Pernoo. He later studied with Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy.

Ivan was laureate at a large number of international competitions, including winning both 5th Place and the Audience Award at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2017.

He performed at the 2018 Cello Biennale, playing music from Belarus. This year, he will play an arrangement of Shostakovitch’s viola sonata, together with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. 

Ivan Karizna plays a Bartolomeo Tassini cello from 1760 (ex-Tortelier).
