Cello Biennale transforms into online festival without an audience
Because of the new corona measures that were announced on October 13, the Cello Biënnale 2020 cannot take place in its original form. Under the new measures a maximum of 30 people are allowed at indoor seated venues such as concert halls. Beside this travel to public venues is restricted. Unfortunately, these measures will have to result in the cancellation of publicly accessible concerts.
Luckily, there is some good news as well. The Nationaal Cello Concours will take place (without audience) and the Biënnale will present a new online festival together with the Dutch broadcast organization NTR. This online festival is completely dedicated to Dutch top cellists. Some of the original programs, such as ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Cello Band’, ‘Chopin Natuurlijk!’ and ‘De cellisten van het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest’ are unaltered. In addition, a few new programs will be added and new Dutch musicians will join. On a daily basis, two concerts will be streamed live with audio and video on NPO Radio 4. One concert in the afternoon and one concert in the evening.
The programme of the online festival will be announced on this website October 19th!
