De Finnish cellist Martti Rousi studied at the well known Sibelius Academy with Arto Noras. Afterwards he studied with Janos Starker in the United States. He won the Turku National Competition for Finnisch cellists and in 1886 the second prize of the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. In 2015 Rousi was part of the jury of the Tchaikovsky Competition.

Nowadays Rousi is professor at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and taught among others members of the Apocalyptica band and Jonathan Roozeman. It will be the first time that Rousi will attend the Cello Biennale, and he will be one of the jury members of the International Cello Competition.
