During the closing evening of the seventh Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, a big surprise was waiting for Maarten Mostert, artistic director and spiritual father of the Biënnale. Instead of commencing the next cello act, deputy-mayor Marjolein Moorman walked on stage and began to speak loving words about Maarten Mostert. She announced him as Officer of the Order of Oranje-Nassau. Nominations in the Order are granted because of extraordinary merits towards society: an honour for everything that Maarten has done for the cultural life in the Netherlands.
