Amsterdam’s cello festival has come to an end after ten amazing days. The most beautiful instrument on earth sounded forth from every conceivable corner of the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. Audience members and national and international press were unanimous in their praise for the distinctive sixth edition of the Biennale.

Previews of great things to come took place at numerous venous: the Cello&Film Festival at the Film Institute EYE, a literary presentation of Four Variations for Cello at Amsterdam’s Public Library (OBA) and educational projects exemplified by the Hello Cello Days in Zwolle, Eindhoven, Den Haag and Amstelveen and performances of De Bestorming at elementary schools in Amsterdam.

Words cannot convey the impact of a festival in which cellists from every corner of the world gave their utmost, 12 world premieres were given and a plethora of musical styles were represented in a mere ten days. It is truly impossible to opt for just one highlight, as far as we are concerned, the Biennale should go on and on…. And, who could imagine that we broke our record in terms of the number of visitors set in 2014!
