The young Moroccan cellist Yassir Bousselam joined forces with the Dutch cellist Jan Bastiaan Neven (Netherlands Chamber Orchestra), the Syrian oud player Nazih Borish, and violinist Abderrahim Semlali and his Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest to create a new programme, especially for the Cello Biennale. It comprises a blend of early and contemporary Arabic music.
Yassir Bousselam studies traditional Arabic music and translates this heritage to the world of the cello – weaving its wonderful early melodies, complete with quarter tones, into melody lines for his improvisational jazz trio (cello, piano and percussion), arranging them for his quartet (cello, oud, ney and percussion) and last, but by no means least, incorporating them into his contemporary compositions.
A programme of traditional Arabic music and compositions from Yassir Bousselam en Abderrahim Semlali.
