For almost a decade now, four talented young cellists from Poland have been performing as a permanent quartet and become the best interpreters of Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz’s masterpieces. The Next Generation cellists from the Kronberg Academy were offered arrangements – without lyrics – of Dowland’s and Purcell’s stirring arias. Puccini wrote a ‘Remember Me’ (Crisantemi) for a deceased friend, as did Purcell.
In Tchaikovsky’s songs, the voice of mezzo-soprano Maria Warenberg will eventually allow the sun to break through, as it will do in De Falla’s folk songs played by Quirine Viersen and Thomas Beijer.
