Viola da gamba player and early music specialist Jordi Savall keeps developing one interesting musical project after another. His line of approach and his subjects are original every single time, and usually presented for the first time. For Jordi, specializing in early music has always meant specializing in all early music, not just Western early music. This has to do with his belief that music goes beyond borders and that people can understand each other through music, regardless of culture, nationality, or religion. He explores from this point of view and brought together musicians from many different musical cultures to form his own ensemble Hesperion XXI.
His project Ibn Battuta presents music as it must have been heard by 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta on his journeys through the Mediterranean countries and the Far East. Ibn Battuta travelled more kilometers in his lifetime than Marco Polo.
