The slow movement from Beethoven’s fifth sonata, the Adagio con molto sentimento d’affetto, is the most beautiful piece of music in existence to many cellists. Arnau Tomàs, cellist of the well-known Cuartetto Casals, takes on the challenge to prove that onstage in concert, after doing the same on CD successfully. Arnau Tomàs is also bringing a composition by his Catalan compatriot Josep Maria Guix.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason (1999) is a member of the famous British Kanneh-Mason family, and one of seven(!) musician brothers and sisters. Sheku – named BBC Young Musician of the Year 2016 – is an impressive member of the family, especially in the Shostakovich sonata he plays with his sister Isata.
As cello-playing teenagers, Alexander Warenberg (1998, winner of the National Cello Competition 2016) and Sheku know each other well. Together they perform festive music by Argentinian composer José Elizondo.
