The National Cello Competition is the most exciting part of the Cello Biennale Amsterdam.
Over the course of three public rounds, up to fifteen students under 27 who are Dutch or are studying in the Netherlands present themselves to an international jury. The jury awards the First, Second, and Third Prize, the incentive prize, and the prize for the best rendition of the commissioned work, composed this year by the father of Dutch composition, Theo Loevendie. The audience gets to award the Audience Prize.
The jury of the seventh National Cello Competition consists of Kristina Blaumane (Latvia), Monique Bartels (Netherlands), Matt Haimovitz (Israel/USA), Reinhard Latzko (Germany), Arnau Tomàs (Spain), Chu Yi-Bing (China), and chairman Sven Arne Tepl (Netherlands). Patty Hamel will be the secretary.
